We’re looking at a brand-new F-4E ‘80405’ on one of it’s very early missions from Soesterberg A.B. The F-4E “Phantom II” was a two-seater,
with one pilot and with in the rear-seat, the Weapons System Officer. The machine had a take-off weight of 25.450 kg. and was equipped with two
General Electric J-79-GE-17 engines with a thrust of more than 8100 kg. each (afterburners on). It could reach a speed of more than 2200 km/ph.

Seen here is F-4E ‘68-0401’ just after landing taxiing back to Base Camp. When this picture was taken the F-4E’s of the 32nd T.F.S. were flying
with the ‘CR’tail-code (of Camp New Amsterdam) and an orange tail-tip (refering to the Huis van Oranje). On the left air-intake, the Squadron
insignia could be seen and on the right side, the insignia of the 17th Air Force was visible. The 32nd T.F.S. now stood under the direct Command
of the 17th. Air Force. The two machines on this page were the first two F-4E’s delivered to the 32nd T.F.S.
