Here we are looking at an F-15A, returning from an Alert-Interception mission. This F-15 has wide open air-intakes and is armed with four AIM-7F
“Sparrow” and four AIM-9L “Sidewinder” missiles. An alert take off (‘scramble’) could take place at any time: by daytime, in the middle of
the night and even on Sundays or Holydays. This ment that within a few minutes after the alarm was given from H.Q. in Germany, the aircraft was
airborne. At Camp New Amsterdam, two machines and crew were always standing by. Note the machine is hanging over to the rear by the heavy
weight of the “Sparrow” missiles. Photos: C. Vermolen.
