First “Eagles” at Soesterberg A.B.

For three months (from September 13, till the end of December1978), 18“Eagles”from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, were present at Soes-
terberg Air Base to fill the gap (Operation Coronet Sandpiper), until all the pilots and ground-crew were converted to the F-15 “Eagle”. Over that
period the‘CR’coded “Eagles”came in from the U.S. until full strength was reached. The‘FF’ coded “Eagles” left in November and Decem-
ber of that year. Note the ‘Tactical Air Command’ insignia on the tail-fin.

Together with F-15A 77-0075, this was the first “Eagle” delivered to the 32nd T.F.S. on September 13, 1978.
The “Eagle” was equipped with two Pratt & Witney F100 PW-100 afterburning turbo-fan jet engines, which had a thrust of 10.830 kg. each. When fully loaded, the F-15’s maximum weight was 25.450 kg. and it could reach a speed of almost 2700 km/ph. Photos: C. Vermolen.
